MEET CODY
Leadership, Progress, Servant

Cody was born in the Boaz and Albertville Hospital (now Marshall Medical Center South), but was raised in the Rodentown Community inside the edge of DeKalb County. After graduating from Crossville High School, Cody attended Gadsden State Community College before transferring to the University of Alabama in Huntsville School of Business to work towards a degree in Accounting. While attending school in Huntsville, Cody found his passion for funeral service in early 2009. He began working in funeral homes in the Guntersville area later that year where his love for Marshall County grew.
After meeting his wife, the former Laina Gibbs of Altoona, and getting married, Cody and Laina moved to Albertville in 2012. Cody continued to work in funeral service and began working as a Deputy Coroner for Marshall County Coroner's office that same year. Cody completed his two year funeral directing and embalming apprenticeship and earned his Associates in Funeral Service Education in the Fall of 2013. He passed his National Board Exam from the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Board in Funeral Directing and Embalming that same time, and received his Funeral Director and Embalming License in the State of Alabama.
Cody continued his education in Medicolegal Death Investigation with various courses including through the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He was elected by the people of Marshall County in 2018 as the Marshall County Coroner. He earned his Advanced Emergency Medical Technician license in 2020 and continues to work with Marshall Medical Centers.
Cody and Laina have two children, Nolan and Liddie. Cody resides in Boaz, works with a mortuary transport company, and still works part-time in funeral service. Cody enjoys working with and ministering to the families in the area who have suffered a loss.
